(isn't she a beauty!) Match Slapper: Ivan
At Stumps Squad: IvanLate selection machinations and Glamour Slap K6 being put through a wall by every guest at his birthday party last weekend saw the Slap brotherhood grow to 21 this week. Robin made his first appearance in black, also introducing our second Slapette of the season who appeared to be working on the stats in real-time. This lent a nice element of charm and professionalism duly noted by the Regs. No cheese platter but you can't have it all. McGregor was looking for a week off as he'd completed a recent de-tox and needed to top up his meat, salt and bourbon levels - however this worthy goal was set aside for the good of us all.
While there was a toss, the Regs oddly still received the benefit of a 5 run handicap. Sent in, Keano was joined by Jamie at the top and they ran into a side hastened by recent losses. They know what they are doing in the field and bowl an irritating line of wobblers intended to frustrate. While they largely succeeded in this the boys hung in to get us away. Ivan and Jimmy are beginning to grind out the runs together, the big Kiwi still a little frustrated on or just outside his off stump - generally a real strength of his game. Freeing his arms in the later overs, this Slap is soon to be back to his best. The Skipper had a dig with Robin, appearing to take an innovative high, wide and handsome approach to facing the bowling power over before it was later discovered he missed the call - likely due to Fossil sucking on a durry, eating pizza or it being mixed in with some random aspersion he was casting at someone in the other court. With 54 flickering occasionally on the board after 12 overs, Johnny and yours truly set about just collecting and not following our usual tactics of farking things up with rash shots. The 'Class looked solid yet with the smallest speckling of rust on his bigger strokes. Before, that is, teeing one off straight into my scone with an absolute ripper. Mate I'm sorry it didn't go onto a side net. We were moderately capable and finished with the score on 99.
Defending 100 runs should not be a simple concern. Yet after 8 overs the Skip worked the bowling perfectly to have us in command, ably supported by some great fielding. Keano set the standard with a contender for catch of the season. The Skipper got into the act from the back court executing an alert sneak power over double-play that dealt a telling blow to the Regs chase. Ball in hand, Ivan (3/-3), John (3/-10) and Jimmy (4/-7) did the business. In a fine performance in all facets of the game, Ivan also took his acrobatic agility to the back stumps with great effect and was a deserved Match Slapper. While Jamie not only looks good after recent dietary purgatory his fielding was top shelf and figures of 3/16 masks the fact he bowled to the Regs batting power over.
Now before we all start slapping each other on the arse too much, taking the long-view the Regs appear to be spent - having lost heavily in three on the trot. Interestingly it is That Last Ball making a potent charge for the top four, building on a highly beneficial forfeit in Round 11. Subsequently they have taken the whip to the Regulators (by 26), ForeSpins (by 107) and a mildly under-strength Rex Lions (by 63) in recent weeks. The Skipper will be poring over the form to discover what new elements TLB have introduced, or researching their home and workplace addresses if that fails. Above us, Rex is 0 and 2 for the last fortnight having crashed heavily to the Floggers again last night. It's moot with regard to us chasing down the Minor but there's every possibility that the positions within the top four are to change yet again before finals night.
Finally Slap social secretary's B.Baggins &Keano have announced upcoming plans ranging from deep-sea fishing to touch football. Let us all support these fine initiatives.
